Cesar Chavez on Community

Chavez was a Mexican-American civil rights activist who nonviolently advocated for farm workers rights.   A street in downtown Austin is named after Cesar Chavez, but I know very little about him.
I need to learn more.

Fascinating Paragraph

My mother was recently in the hospital for some rudimentary surgery and I discovered this fascinating section (part c) in her documentation.  According to the hospital administrator, it was added six months ago.  Of particular interest to me is: 

"I understand that I have the right to receive the visitors whom I or my support person designates, without regard to my relationship to these visitors....I will not be denied visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability."

Gone are the days (at least here in Austin) when  a same-sex partner could be refused access to their hospitalized loved ones.  It's the little things that make me happy.  This is a (tiny) step in the right direction.
